Infrastructure facilities are well established in rural and urban areas of Foshan. Efficient and modernized transport network with good access to sea, road and air links extends to all direction. The total highway mileage in Foshan is 5137.6 km and traffic density per 100 km2 is 133.5 km. Several expressways linking Guangzhou with Zhuhai, Zhanjiang, Zhaoqing, Foshan, Sanshui and an expressway linking Foshan with Kaiping cross over the city proper. Guangzhou-Zhanjiang Railway passes through Foshan and connects to the nation's railway network. There are daily through trains between Foshan and Kowloon of Hong Kong. Road transportation network has been under improvement.Since 2007, Guangzhou-Foshan Metro has fully started construction and will be open to traffic by 2010. Road improvement and landscaping of nine major roads connecting with Guangzhou have achieved good results. Out of the 16 under-construction expressway passing through Foshan, three have been open to traffic. The city has made progress in assisting in the project of Wuhan-Guangzhou railway, Guizhou-Guangzhou railway, Guangzhou-Zhuhai railway, Nanning-Guangzhou railway and Guangzhou-Zhuhai inter-cities Light Rail Transit. Port channel improvement is well in progress. Now in Foshan there are 15 exit and entry ports, four of which are passenger terminals (namely Shunde Port, Nanhai Port, Gaoming Port and Foshan Railway Station), and 11 of which are container terminals.
